Château de Garde Wedding Photographer – near Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux

One of the most distinctive wedding venues in South-West France

Château de Garde and its park in Moulon, near Saint-Émilion

Have you ever discovered the heart of the Gironde, in a truly rustic and elegant spirit?

On a hillside in the village of Moulon, surrounded by its own vineyards and only a short drive from Saint-Émilion, Château de Garde is unlike any other château in the Bordeaux region. Its 18th-century Bordeaux stone meets a bold, contemporary interior, and the result is one of the most distinctive wedding venues in South-West France. As a fine art wedding photographer, I have been recommended by its owners on many occasions, and it remains one of the places I most love to photograph.

The genius and creativity of the couple who own it have turned Château de Garde into a truly unique wedding venue.

You already love it, I am sure.

Why Choose Château de Garde for Your Wedding

A Preserved Setting among the Vineyards

Château de Garde sits on a hill about 45 minutes north-east of Bordeaux, near the Saint-Émilion wine region. Its vineyards produce both red and white wines. If you are drawn to the countryside, to calm, to the green of the vines and to the warm, sand-coloured Bordeaux stone, you will feel at home here at once. In summer, the swimming pool adds a welcome pause during a wedding weekend.

If you are a couple from Paris, Château de Garde is about 2 hours 45 minutes away by train, for a visit for example.

For guests travelling from abroad, Bordeaux-Mérignac international airport is around 45 minutes away by car.

Historic Stone, Contemporary Design

If you love paradoxes and mixing styles, you will surely want to get married at Château de Garde.

What makes Château de Garde unique is its style. The owners, Céline and Dimitri, have brought their personal touch to this 18th-century château. Outside, they have highlighted the beauty of the pale Bordeaux stone. Inside, a refined contemporary decoration plays with the old walls and beams.

As a wedding photographer, I take enormous pleasure in photographing my couples at Château de Garde.

Around the château, a formal French garden and the vineyards above it offer a variety of viewpoints for an unhurried walk. Some corners of the garden feel almost tropical, with palm trees and a courtyard fountain, while others take on a Japanese-inspired calm, always in harmony with the region’s biodiversity.

For a photographer, the estate is a setting in itself: there is no need to bring props, as every space, inside and out, invites creativity.

The Reception Hall: Wedding Dinner and Party

You can book the estate’s reception hall for your wedding evening. With its exposed stone walls, solid oak parquet floor and chandeliers, the reception hall can welcome up to 120 seated guests for dinner.

It also has a dance floor for the evening, if you choose to book a DJ.

  • In the former tenant farmer’s house (maison du métayer), seven rooms, two of them on a mezzanine.

Weddings I Have Photographed at Château de Garde

As a wedding photographer in the Gironde, I have already had the chance to photograph several weddings at Château de Garde. These blog articles were published after those weddings:

01

Julie & Stanley: a French-Swiss couple who fell in love with Château de Garde and married there in 2018. Their wedding was gentle and full of emotion, with a sunny day for their outdoor ceremony and portraits in the estate’s vineyards at the end of the day.

02

As a Fine Art photographer at Château de Garde, I had the pleasure of photographing Marie-Sophie and Sébastien, who said yes at the end of summer 2020. Although their wedding was affected by Covid restrictions, the owners, Céline and Dimitri, found a way for them to celebrate at the château with their closest family and friends.

Greg & Charles. Their wedding brought colour to the estate, from an outdoor ceremony beneath a floral arch, with peacock chairs set in the garden, to a vibrant dinner table by the fireplace.

CHÂTEAU DE GARDE FAQ

Its contemporary style. The owners have paired the 18th-century Bordeaux stone with bold contemporary design, and the gardens move from formal French lines to tropical and Japanese-inspired corners.

Is Château de Garde suitable for a large wedding?

It suits medium to large weddings: the reception hall seats around 120 guests, and the estate offers several indoor and outdoor spaces for the ceremony, the cocktail hour and the dinner. The estate can sleep up to 60 guests.

Is Château de Garde open to the public?

No. It is a private estate, rented for events such as weddings and business meetings, and is not generally open to visitors outside these events. If you are interested in holding an event at Château de Garde, it is best to contact Céline Maviel and her team for more information on availability and hire conditions.

The château also provides a dance floor in the main hall. In short, Château de Garde is an ideal venue for every wedding-related event, with elegant, refined reception spaces to welcome all your guests on the big day and make them dream, for the most beautiful memories of your life.

How much does it cost to hire Château de Garde for a wedding?

Rates vary with the date, the length of the hire and the number of guests staying overnight. The best approach is to contact the owners directly for a personalised quote, and to book early, as the estate is in high demand.

Where is Château de Garde, and how do I get there?

Château de Garde is at 3 Garde, 33420 Moulon, in Gironde.
