Getting Married at Bordeaux City Hall

Getting married at Bordeaux City Hall is a privilege, because this building, now used for administration, has a remarkable history. The Palais Rohan, which houses Bordeaux City Hall, has been listed and classified as a Historic Monument since 1997.

This neoclassical palace was built for Archbishop Ferdinand-Maximilien-Mériadec de Rohan between 1771 and 1784.

Every year, the Palais Rohan attracts many visitors for its architecture, outside and in, and for its character.

As for civil weddings in Bordeaux, there are more and more of them. It is true that today’s City Hall is an exceptional building, steeped in history, and its Bordeaux elegance wins most people over.

Its location is another asset for civil wedding ceremonies. Thanks to its central position, couples and their families can get there on the Bordeaux tram. You will probably tell me that taking the tram is less glamorous than arriving in a Bentley or a 1960s Fiat 500? That is up to you! And the walk is a chance to take lovely photos around Place Pey-Berland.

That is what Iris and Laurent did: they arrived at the Palais Rohan on foot, walking past Pey-Berland cathedral. If you would like to, have a look at the article with Iris and Laurent’s photos at Bordeaux City Hall.

Funnily enough, Iris and Marjorie have something in common, which you will discover below…

My Secret Spots for Beautiful Wedding Photos around Bordeaux City Hall

Bordeaux City Hall, in the heart of the city, is just a few minutes’ walk from many places that are perfect for wedding photography.

When I photograph a civil ceremony at the Palais Rohan, I like to suggest that my couples step away a little for their couple portraits. Of course, this needs to be planned in the schedule of their wedding day!

As I know Bordeaux well, and above all its best spots for beautiful couple photos, I know which settings will enhance my pictures.

If you are curious, feel free to contact me on my Instagram account and I will tell you about my favourite places in central Bordeaux ;)

Marjorie and Brice: My Winter Newlyweds

I met Marjorie in 2019. She was a happy single woman at the time, looking for a furry companion. If you follow my adventures with my four-legged friends on Facebook, you will have guessed: she adopted one of our kittens, a Sacred Birman named Pandora Total Control des Innamorati, "Pando" to her friends.

It was when I went back to see her, to hear how Pandora was doing (and Marjorie too, of course), that I met her fiancé, Brice. Both gentle and sensitive, they did not dream of a big wedding. They simply wanted to make their union official, partly to please their parents.

Marjorie, who loved my work as a Fine Art photographer, then asked me whether I would photograph her civil ceremony at Bordeaux City Hall in mid-February. I was delighted! All the more so as the weather was lovely: a little chilly, of course, but with sublime light.

Marjorie had also chosen Sarah de Saint Quentin for a sublime, typically Fine Art bouquet!

After the ceremony, we headed to a large apartment on cours de l’Intendance in Bordeaux. We stopped two or three times along the way for a few natural, elegant couple photos. I then left them with their families and friends around a lovely meal prepared by Traiteur Deval.
