Johanna and Alexandre's Wedding at Château de Cujac, near Bordeaux

Real Weddings

This wedding at Château de Cujac was Johanna and Alexandre’s, in July 2017. You may well recognise this couple, as I have been telling you about them in several of my blog posts for a while now. Recently I shared their incredible trash the dress photoshoot on the beach. Today, I am diving back into the wonderful memory of their wedding day in the Gironde, in Saint-Aubin-de-Médoc to be precise.

Château de Cujac, Saint-Aubin-de-Médoc

Let’s discover Château de Cujac, where Johanna and Alexandre celebrated their wedding.

Château de Cujac lies in the Gironde, in Saint-Aubin-de-Médoc, a small village 30 minutes from the Médoc beaches and less than 10 km from Bordeaux.

A former 18th-century wine estate of no fewer than 60 hectares, Château de Cujac was once a renowned Médoc wine. After the Second World War, the château lay in ruins: the vines had disappeared and the estate was completely destroyed. In the 1950s, its new owners, who still own it today, restored the château and gave it a second life.

Today, Château de Cujac hosts weddings, seminars, conferences and meetings. Two reception halls can host a wedding party: Les Chais and La Bergerie.

Les Chais are two large connecting rooms, with a lawn for the wedding cocktail hour, in vast wooded surroundings.

La Bergerie has kept all of its past. Its stone walls and exposed beams make it a wedding dinner venue full of charm and character. Outside the hall, a green space is also available to welcome guests for drinks.

A wedding in the Gironde: Johanna & Alexandre

Johanna and Alexandre chose two places to celebrate their union.

The first part of their wedding day took place in Mérignac, where they arrived by tram, which greatly amused the other passengers!

The civil ceremony was held at Mérignac Town Hall, followed by the religious ceremony at the church in Mérignac.

The couple chose to stay in Mérignac for their couple photos, in the Parc du Vivier. It is in this same park that we also took photos for their maternity photoshoot in Bordeaux.

Then we set off for Château de Cujac, where they had hired La Bergerie for their wedding party.

Wedding photos with a Fine Art finish

These wedding photos were taken in 2017, when I was not yet a Fine Art photographer. It was in 2019 that I decided to move towards this style.

So for this article, I re-edited Johanna and Alexandre’s wedding photos at Château de Cujac to give them that bright, romantic, pared-back Fine Art finish.

Wedding couple photos in the Gironde

Johanna and Alexandre love photography, and they were the ones who insisted on taking the time for several couple photo sessions during their wedding. It was a real chance for me, because I had them all to myself for 3 hours 30 minutes in total over the wedding day!

Between the two ceremonies in Mérignac, we spent 1 hour 30 minutes together for their couple session, plus 2 hours in the park of Château de Cujac during the cocktail hour. We took the group photos with the witnesses and guests, then the couple photos that meant so much to them. They had even planned the different scenes in advance!

The evening was full of emotion too, and ended with a first dance to the final song of the film Dirty Dancing, brilliantly choreographed and danced. An incredible moment to witness.

It was also at this wedding that I met Justine and David, whose wedding at Château d’Agassac I photographed two years later.
