Lily's First Birthday Photoshoot at Home in Bordeaux

A birthday photoshoot is a way to mark a special day, and to keep the memories of a lovely occasion for life. For little ones and grown-ups alike, a birthday photoshoot can be tailored to you. In this article, I share Lily’s magical day for her very first birthday.

A First Birthday Photoshoot

A child’s first birthday is a festive and very special occasion for parents. Many emotions often mingle: the joy of celebrating their baby’s first year, and a touch of melancholy for those first months, already gone.

Lily’s first birthday photoshoot was a great joy for Johanna and Alexandre, her parents, and for me too.

To tell the truth, this day moved me deeply, because I was finally meeting this little one. More than a year earlier, I had been in the very same place to take Johanna’s maternity photos!

Meeting Lily for the first time and photographing her was a real pleasure, because she is an adorable, very sweet little girl.

How Does a Birthday Photoshoot with a One-Year-Old Go?

A birthday photoshoot for a child’s first birthday can be a wonderful experience, full of surprises. That said, it is important to respect the child’s rhythm, and especially their nap times. At one year old, a baby may be grumpy because of teething pain, which can affect their mood, particularly if they have not slept well.

As for Lily’s birthday photoshoot, I have nothing but good things to say. She gave me a wonderful welcome. I was very reassured when I first saw her in her mum’s arms, coming down the stairs: the same staircase where I had photographed Johanna when she was expecting Lily.

Lily did not cry when she saw my camera. On the contrary, she was curious to know what it was for! Of course, Johanna and Alexandre stayed close to her throughout the session.

Being in her own world, surrounded by familiar things, she was not unsettled at all, nor by my presence in her home. Lily was wonderfully patient and gave me the most irresistible smiles!

The session was shot in natural light only, to bring out the Fine Art style of the photos. The layout of the couple’s home lets in beautiful daylight, which gave the photographs their soft, airy feel.

Johanna and Alexandre: Our Story

It was only natural for Johanna and Alexandre to ask me to photograph their daughter Lily’s birthday. I say naturally because, over the last four years, we have built a special relationship, full of kindness and trust.

I have become their regular family photographer, and I am deeply grateful for it.

It all started with an engagement session in Saint-Émilion in 2016. Then, in 2017, came their wedding photos at Château de Cujac in Saint-Aubin-de-Médoc. In 2018, the couple got in touch for a trash the dress photoshoot, a post-wedding session, at Cap-Ferret. Finally, in 2019, they shared their happy news with me, Lily of course, and asked me to do a maternity photoshoot at their home in Bordeaux.
